Within the space of a week, we’ve gone from dark, dreary, snowy gloom to sunshine, longer days, second vaccines, the PM talking about a roadmap out of lockdown and a new financial year in reach.
It feels like we’re on the cusp of that big break, on a roll to winning the jackpot and there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
But I’m worried. Worried that we’re putting all of our eggs in one basket.
My Gran used to say, “don’t strip a clout til May is out”. It seems a fitting metaphor for now. Let’s not throw away our overcoat and fling our face masks to the wind. Let’s be cautious and conservative and take small, calculated steps.
I worry that a set back now will sap up any reserve of resilience left and our mental health and well-being will be kicked when it’s only just getting back up.
I suspect the impact on individuals, businesses and organisations will be significant, if we can’t reach the goal of freedom by early summer.
Let’s move slowly and set short term goals, that are informed by the science. Let’s make sure that we have the energy and headspace to see this thing through. We need rest to refuel and refuelled people to carry us to the new-normal and whatever the future brings.
