It’s so easy to forget that we don’t have to have all of the answers all of the time. Today I was reminded about the benefit of drawing on other skills and appreciating that problem solving isn’t the only one you have to drawn from!

When you don’t have all of the answers….

  1. Facilitate
Ask open questions and generate conversations to develop a picture of who, what, when, where, why and how. Draw on the talent, skills and knowledge in the room. Remember small voices may also have big ideas!
  2. Ideate
Let the discussion bounce around the room and see what grows. Rooms are often filled with little ideas that grow into big ideas when they’re shared
  3. Narrate
Tell the story of the discussion. Draw together the ideas and set out actions so that everybody can get involved and together you can push the project forward
  4. Activate
Put clear timescales to actions and make sure responsibility is allocated to a broad range of people. Involve everyone in decision making. Move from thinking and talking to doing.

I love it when something you weren’t looking forward to turns out to be the highlight of your day! It’s all about perspective!
