When I wrote the definition of leader effectiveness in my thesis, I found that listing the good, positive, bright side as well as the bad, negative, dark side was really helpful in presenting a rounded definition of what it was and what it was not.

We all know that transparency is an essential behaviour for an effective leader. If we then translate this idea of bright side/dark side to transparency, to be truly transparent an effective leader needs to be talking about the good stuff as well as the tough stuff. The media is more than ready to tell the world about our woes, but it takes the wind out of their sails if we do it first, right?

So my thought for this Wednesday lunchtime is – be ware of the leader who doesn’t talk about the bad stuff. They either don’t know what’s going on or they do and they’re just not telling you about it……..
