Leaning in to Self-Awareness to Lead on Patient Care: 3 Ideas for Excellence
Join me in conversation with Michelle Devout, the Travel Nurse. There are lots of studies about the impact health professionals’ self-awareness has on their behaviour and consequently, on their patient’s wellbeing and recovery. Being that Michelle has a very interesting healthcare career, I really wanted to explore what self-awareness means to Michelle and how it impacts her patients. Read on to find out about her escapade and what self-awareness means to a travelling nurse
We might just save the world… Reflections on the CMI Women in Leadership Conference
I recently attended my first in-person Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Women in Leadership conference, themed “Divide or Prosper.” The event featured inspiring speakers, with key takeaways including the importance of modelling behaviour to drive change, recognising the underestimated power of “Queenagers” (women 45+ with leadership and financial influence), and supporting women rising through the ranks. The conference emphasised cognitive diversity as essential for innovative problem-solving in today’s world. If you’re a manager, consider pursuing chartered status to enhance your skills and connect with influential leaders. Join me on this exciting learning journey!
Hyper-Humanism and Ultra-Digitalism: 3 Ways to Master the Balancing Act
As the workplace becomes increasingly digital, the need to humanize our work environments is more crucial than ever. Historically, the Industrial Era separated thinkers from doers, but in today’s knowledge and digital age, this division no longer serves us. Instead, integrating thinking and doing is key, fostering engagement, inclusion, and authentic expression in the workplace. As AI and technology continue to advance, maintaining a balance between digitalism and humanism will be essential for organizations to thrive. Hyper-humanism must counterbalance ultra-digitalism to ensure ethical practices and equitable workplaces in the future.

Cultivating Curiosity: 5 Ways to Take the Sting Out of Feedback
Feedback is essential for growth, yet it often feels like a sharp sting. In my conversations with podcast guests, we’ve explored how valuable feedback can be for personal development, despite its initial discomfort. Embracing a curious mindset can transform feedback into a powerful tool for improvement. By proactively seeking feedback, focusing on future actions, and being discerning about whose opinions to consider, you can turn even the most painful feedback into a stepping stone towards success. Remember, it’s not just about hearing feedback—it’s about learning, growing, and becoming better every day.
The NHS in Crisis: 4 Reasons Biscuits Won’t Fix It
A LinkedIn post caught my eye. It was extolling the brilliance of an idea implemented by a department within a prestigious UK National Health Service (NHS) organisation.
The new initiative is designed to welcome new employees and make them feel comfortable and valued in the organisation. This is really important. A strong welcome and good onboarding starts a new employee’s journey with an organisation off on the right foot and shows that they are valued and cared for.
But, the prized element in question? Was it access to coaching? Was it a voucher for professional development? Was it even free yoga classes every Wednesday morning?
No.
It was biscuits.
